Working Together Locally

Churches Together Groups

The regional body is called North East Churches Acting Together (NECAT).

It was formed in 2014 from the amalgamation of NECCT (North East Christian Churches Together) and CRC (the Churches’ Regional Commission).

The Regional Officer of NECAT is the Revd Joanne Thorns on 07932 513295 or regionalofficer@necat.co.uk.

Worshipping together

The Church of England's regulations for this are covered by Canon B43 which you can download here with additional notes.

Further details on applying the Canons, including to the Salvation Army and the Religious Society of Friends, can be downloaded here.

Sharing Church Buildings

Canon B43 is used both for occasional and regular use; that is, the same procedures are followed for regular use as for ‘one–offs’. So if, for example, another church’s building is closed or being renovated, the same conditions will apply if they wish to share the building on a short or long-term basis.

Please note that if a church is not on the ‘designated’ list (download the current list from 'resources' on this page) then there are extra guidelines and a ‘licence under faculty’ may have to be obtained as well as the permission of the PCC and Bishop.

Download guidelines for bishops on ecumenical co-operation under the Dioceses, Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007.
