Newcastle Diocese Flood Relief Appeal 2008

After the heavy rainfall and flooding of the weekend 6th and 7th September the Diocese has formed a fund, to be managed by Partners in Community Action (PICA), for the relief of those who have been affected.
Over 1000 homes have been affected by flooding in Morpeth, around 50-60 homes in Rothbury. Flooding was also experienced in places such as Warkworth, Blanchland, in the Glendale area, at Etal and in the Till Valley. Areas were flooded in Northumberland that did not reach the headlines.
For some it will be many months before returning to their homes and for others it may well be over a year. There are many who were forced to live without insurance and therefore have little to fall back on.
In rural Northumberland the effect on farming is still being assessed but there are signs of devastation and distress at the loss of livestock and uncertainties about the current and future harvests.
Parish churches in the affected areas will be able to offer hardship grants in order to alleviate personal distress. Churches themselves will be able to apply for small grants to directly support flood victims. Experience shows that the churches have an important role to play in pastoral care and support for many weeks (and months) after significant flooding. It is envisaged that the Flood Relief Appeal Fund 2008 will be required for at least a year.

ARC Addington Fund: Special Support for Farmers
If you are in farming and in difficulty due to the extraordinary recent circumstances, you can download an application form for financial support from the ARC-Addington Fund website, www.arc-addingtonfund.org.uk, click on Trustees' Discretionary Fund.
Each application will be considered on an individual basis by the Trustees and all applications will receive a written response. Please note that the Fund is unable to help with the 'normal' day to day running costs of a farming business.
