08/03/2017

As part of an audit of Safeguarding arrangements in every diocese in the Church of England, in November 2016 we welcomed auditors Lucy Erber and Hugh Constant from the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) to the Diocese of Newcastle.

The purpose of the audit was to support safeguarding arrangements by understanding the journey we have been on and exploring our strengths and weaknesses.

So they considered:-

  • governance arrangements
  • statutory requirements
  • case work files where allegations have been made or serious safeguarding situation have occurred,
  • risk management
  • safer recruitment
  • complaints

They did this by reading documentation as well as talking to key people within the diocese (eg Bishop Christine, Archdeacon Geoff Miller, Diocesan Secretary Shane Waddle, Safeguarding Adviser Ruth Rogan) our local authority partners and meeting a parish focus group.
