Acting Dean is welcomed

The new Acting Dean of Newcastle, the Venerable Geoff Miller, was formally commissioned by Bishop Christine at a special service at Newcastle Cathedral on Sunday.

Geoff has taken on this interim role following the departure of The Very Revd. Chris Dalliston, now Dean of Peterborough. Geoff will lead the Cathedral during the vacancy until a new Dean is appointed.

The Revd Mark Wroe was also commissioned at the service as Acting Archdeacon of Northumberland to cover Geoff’s usual role as Archdeacon through this period.

During the choral evensong service, one of Geoff’s first official duties as Acting Dean was to install six new Lay and Honorary Canons.

  • The Revd. Peter Askew (Honorary Canon): stall of St Oswald
  • The Revd. John Carr (Honorary Canon): stall of St Chad
  • The Revd. Rachel Wood (Honorary Canon): stall of St Oswin
  • Isabella McDonald Booth (Lay Canon): stall of Roger Thornton
  • Barbara Packer (Lay Canon): stall of Josephine Butler
  • Carole Snelling (Lay Canon): stall of Lord Armstrong

A very warm welcome to the Acting Dean, Acting Archdeacon, and Honorary and Lay Canons.
