With Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser Ruth Rogan

In March, Andrew Grant joined us as a part time Assistant Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser. His main working days will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and he can be contacted on 07741 633670 or a.grant@newcastle.anglican.org

His 30 year career with South Yorkshire Police Force is excellent experience for working closely with the police and probation service in the North East, as one of Andrew’s key roles will be to ensure anyone who might pose a risk as a result of offending behaviour has a Safeguarding Agreement in place to enable them to attend worship.

He will also be able to help parishes understand offending behaviour and support them in monitoring someone who might pose a risk.

Andrew will also help deliver training and be able to respond to requests for advice and guidance from parishes.

Andrew said: “I spent a large part of my police service working in the safeguarding field and I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to bring my experience to the Church. Safeguarding the most vulnerable in our churches and communities is really important and everybody can contribute to that in some way. I am looking forward to working with as many people as possible, so that together we can try to protect and support those most in need.”

In addition to his work, Andrew enjoys sport and in particular cricket and football. As well as being a dedicated follower of Sheffield United, he is a qualified Football Association coach and recently managed a successful girls’ football team to three County League Titles in five years.

Andrew’s appointment brings resources for safeguarding in the diocese in line with National Guidance and we are delighted to welcome him.
