Texan Professor takes charge at Stannington Church

Dr Alan Gregory; Bishop Frank White; Archdeacon Peter RobinsonA British former Professor of Church History and Historical Theology at the Seminary of the Southwest, in Austin, Texas, was licensed as Priest-in-Charge of Stannington, Morpeth, on Thursday 18 April by the Assistant Bishop of Newcastle, the Right Reverend Frank White, and the Archdeacon of Lindisfarne, the Venerable Peter Robinson.

St Mary's Church, Stannington, was packed with local people and community leaders, with representatives of the local and wider Church, many of whom greeted and welcomed Dr Gregory and his wife Suzy, who have moved into Stannington Vicarage.

Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, StanningtonThe Reverend Doctor Alan Gregory was ordained in the Guildford Diocese and served as a Curate in Walton-on-Thames before becoming a Lecturer at Salisbury and Wells Theological College. In 1988, he moved to the United States, serving in parishes in Atlanta, Georgia, before taking up his position at the Seminary of the Southwest.

Dr Gregory has also taken up the role of Continuing Ministerial Development Officer for the Diocese of Newcastle, overseeing in-service training for clergy and those in lay church ministry.
