'Youth Work Activists' - Deanery Youth Advocates commissioned

01/06/2012

New DYAs during the Commissioning service at StanningtonThe Deanery Youth Advocates were commissioned by Bishop Frank White on 21st April at St Mary’s Stannington.

Youth Team Leader Andrew Shipton explained their purpose:

“The Youth Team has sought over the last 6 years to encourage parishes to listen to and work with young people and has organised events to bring young people together. As well as continuing to initiate work in parishes, the team is seeking new ways to develop existing work and explore ways to sustain what has been accomplished.

"We believe that every church in the Diocese can develop a realistic and appropriate ministry working for and with young people and that young people have so much to contribute.

"The idea of the Deanery Youth Advocates network is to promote this engagement locally, to build on established work, encourage local initiatives and deanery events and share good practise, as well be a channel of communication for Diocesan events”.

The Deanery Youth Advocates are a mixture of lay and ordained people who have a passion to develop quality relationships with young people by encouraging churches and clergy to embark on new work and develop existing work.

They are ‘Youth Work Activists.’
