Robert Edwards (35) and Patricia Patterson (34) were delighted when the vicar of St Alban’s Earsdon agreed to allow the owl to swoop above the nave and deliver the rings to the best man.

The Vicar of St Alban’s, the Revd Andrew France, said, “ I was very pleased to allow the owl into St Alban’s and thankfully, all went to plan with the owl flying gracefully from the west gallery and landing safely with the rings. It was a poignant moment in the service.”

St Alban’s Church Earsdon in Whitley Bay is one of the most popular churches for weddings in the Newcastle Diocese with 26 weddings booked for 2012.
