Café 2012 looks to bring community together.
With just days left before the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games, a new venue is being prepared for people to enjoy good coffee and the Olympics.
From Saturday 28 July until Saturday 11 August, Holy Trinity Church in Jesmond will become ‘Café 2012’ and will open its doors from 9am to 10pm on each day.
Open to ‘all comers’, Café 2012 will stream the Olympics live on a big screen, offering people the chance to come together, have a coffee, enjoy the spectacle of the Olympic Games and get to know people at the same time.
In addition to the showing the Olympics, Café 2012 will have a range of other events on offer throughout the two-weeks it is open.
Some of the highlights of Café 2012, with start times, include:
- Friday 27 July Opening Ceremony Party (6pm)
- Saturday 28 July Olympic Quiz Night (7.30pm)
- Monday 30 July Olympic Movie Night (7pm)
- Wednesday 1 August Live Music Evening (8pm)
- Saturday 4 August Super Saturday BBQ (12 noon)
- Wednesday 8 August Live Music Evening (8pm)
- Saturday 11 August Family Breakfast Fun Run (9.30am)
In addition to these events there will be Weekday Evening Seminars looking at Big Issues in Life and Faith (7-8pm each evening), and the ‘On Your Marks’ Holiday Club for children will run from 30 July – 2 August and again from 6 to 9 August from 10am to 12 noon on each of the days.
Café 2012 will also play host to a community art exhibition which is inspired by the Olympics.
“As a church, we at Holy Trinity want to be good news and to share that good news with the people around us, and we see the London 2012 Olympics as a perfect opportunity for us to do both,” said the Revd Mark Wroe, Vicar of Holy Trinity (right).
