The flame burns bright at Embleton's Festival
23/08/2012
Embleton is a small community near the coast north of Alnwick but over a hundred people were involved in organising and running this year's Flower and Craft Festival at Holy Trinity Church with its Olympic theme.
Inspired by the Torch Relay's journey from Bamburgh to Alnwick during July, stunning flower displays depicted the olympic flame, riding, sailing, diving, cycling and sailing, embellished with flags drawn and coloured by children of Vincent Edwards First School.
Even the colourful knitting display by the Mothers' Union incorporated a patriotic theme while they made a blanket for Oxfam (pictured).
Visitors were invited to draw themselves in action, placing themselves in the large painted arena, and an attempt was made to colour small flags from every country and place them on a world map.
Musical interludes on organ, Northumbrian pipes, fiddle, piano, and voice added atmosphere to the celebrations and all conversation stopped when Andrew and Nicholas (pictured with the sailing exhibit) struck up on trumpet and clarinet.
Over £800 was raised to be shared beween Holy Trinity and the local First Responders.
