Obituary
RIP: Revd. Reg West
(1915-2009)
Reg West was a faithful and committed parish priest, with a deep faith and strong convictions, who served the church in this Diocese throughout his ministry and in his retirement. His ordained ministry began in 1945 at Holy Trinity, Tynemouth, and he then served a second curacy at Sugley, where looked after the Mission Church at Denton. He then become Vicar of Cresswell, where he served for six years, before returning to Newcastle to become Vicar of St Luke's, Spital Tongues. A well-known, somewhat larger than life character, known by all for his generosity and sense of fun, he held this post until his retirement in 1982. Retirement did not mean an end to his service of the church, and he contributed to the life and work of All Saints' Gosforth, before in later years becoming a faithful worshipper at St John's Grainger Street and continuing to say the Daily Office and receive the sacrament regularly to the very end of his life. In all his work, he had the love and support of his family, as well as many friends, a love and support which he returned to them generously.
