Youthwork Training

Discovery Youth Training Course

The 'Discovery’ Youth Ministry training Sessions (6 sessions - leading to a Newcastle Diocesan Certification in Basic Youth Work - or just 3 sessions) were organised in parishes in June/July and October/November in 2011.

The course is open to Lay and Ordained and particularly helpful to those who want to do youth work but do not know where to start.

The modules focus on different aspects of Youth Work: You, the Church, Young People, God, the Bible and Group Work. Participants listen to quotes, record reflections, tackle practical issues and watch video clips.

For dates for 2012 please contact Andrew Shipton 0191 2363788.

You Can Do It!

One and half hour sessions in each deanery (or group of deaneries) to help start engaging with young people whenever they are. The session includes :

  • Reaching Young People. Where are the young people? How do you engage with young people?
  • What ways are there? What practical steps can we take and where do we start?
  • Resourcing the Work. How do you work with young people? This session will give you the basics and new ideas for working with young people. From basic child protection and good practice to programme planning and running and resourcing youth work.
  • Keeping the work going. So now we've started how do we keep engaging with the young people and how do we keep the young people interested? This session looks at the practical parts of long term youth work.
