Fundraising is an increasingly important part of church life; whether it is for supporting church finances, a community project or building work. You may organise your own church fundraising events, create online funding campaigns or you may look at developing funding bids.
It may seem daunting if you have not done it before but there are lots of resources out there and our Generous Giving Team are on hand to give some advice and support. Additionally, as there are many different types of fundraising already happening across the Diocese, our Generous Giving Team are also looking to bring people together to share good ideas and practice, as well as signposting people to some professional organisations that can help too.
Church Fundraising Events
Many people across the diocese help to raise funds for their church by organising a range of events. These can include coffee mornings, cake sales, summer fetes, music events and so on. Each church will have a different take on things, but to a greater or lesser degree these events can all play their part in helping to raise finance for your church and its mission (and hopefully they will be fun too!)
Please speak to the Generous Giving Team if you would like any advice on organising a local fundraising event. We can also offer support around: event planning, facilitating digital giving, marketing and promotion, using social media, and enabling volunteers.
Projects and Grant Funding
Many churches across the diocese are keen to develop some new ideas or projects, but are often restricted by a lack of funds. This is where developing fundraising bids may prove useful. There are a lot of grant giving trusts and foundations out there as well as some of the major players who we may have heard of. If you would like to discuss an idea or project then please get in touch with our Generous Giving Team. Specifically, we are looking to support churches who are interested in developing funding bids for mission focussed projects. Please contact us directly to discuss this further.

For this type of work, you may be interested in looking at the Diocese’s Inspired North East page, (the umbrella organisation for several specific projects including the current Rural Churches for Everyone) which offers lots of project planning tools and resources to help congregations looking to improve their buildings or facilities.
