Diocesan Open Synod Forum
Open Diocesan Synod Forum – Equipping the Whole People of God
Saturday 23rd March 2019 from 10:00 to 13:00 (registration and refreshments from 9:30am)
Location: Duke’s Secondary School, Josephine Butler Campus (where the Synod usually meets), Northumberland Church of England Academy Trust, ASHINGTON NE63 9RY
We are delighted to be launching two new initiatives for the Diocese at this open event:
- Authorised Ministry Scheme; and
- Discipleship in Daily Life resources.
After many months of listening, consulting, and planning we are initiating these pieces of work, both of which aim to equip more people to use the gifts that God has given them and to live out their Christian faith more confidently in their lives.
The Discipleship in Daily Life resources offer material for a number of group sessions: each session is an opportunity for you to discuss and share with others your own experiences of some of the joys and struggles of living as faithful followers or disciples in everyday life. Each session addresses an important question that is at the heart of being an active and engaged follower of Christ in everyday life. The sessions can be followed in any order and over any timescale to suit your needs.
The Authorised Ministry Scheme affirms the development of the ministry of the whole people of God. Many people want to offer their time and talents in particular ways, and this scheme offers them a short but focussed Diocesan training course, to equip them for specific roles in their parishes, and potentially more widely. It will encourage local churches to respond to their particular needs in terms of mission and ministry.
At the Open Forum there will be an opportunity to learn more about both pieces of work, to ask questions, and to take part in two carousel-style workshops – from the following choices:
1) a more detailed look at the Discipleship in Daily Life materials;
2) Authorised Ministry: Leading Worship;
3) Authorised Ministry: Pastoral Care;
4) Authorised Ministry – Community Engagement.
All are welcome!
