Priest in Charge - St Peter and St Luke, Wallsend

The Bishop of Newcastle wishes to appoint a Priest in Charge to the parish of St Peter and St Luke, Wallsend.

‘Behold, I am doing a new thing…’

(Isaiah 43.19)

Newcastle Diocese is seeking to respond to God’s call by developing new patterns and partnerships for mission and ministry. The parish of Wallsend is a large, lively, mixed community with historical links back to Hadrian’s Wall and a more recent industrial heritage of mining and shipbuilding. It has good retail and leisure facilities, transport links and is close to the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. In the parish there are two worship centres – St Peter’s and St Luke’s. Worship is within the catholic tradition of the Church of England. The congregations are looking to renew their service of and mission to the community.

St Peter and St Luke receive alternative sacramental and pastoral care from the Bishop of Beverley, and as a new Priest in Charge you will be confident of sensitively and creatively upholding the House of Bishops’ Five Guiding Principles. You will have the ability to build good pastoral relationships, develop partnerships within and across parish boundaries, discern and communicate where God is at work in the churches and wider parish. You will lead the parish in worship and prayer from which will flow vision and commitment to the process of growing church bringing hope: next steps.
