Priest in Charge: Benefices St Paul’s, North Sunderland, St Ebba’s, Beadnell, St Maurice, Ellingham
The Bishop wishes to appoint a Priest in Charge to the Benefice of St Paul’s, North Sunderland and St Ebba’s, Beadnell and also to the Benefice of St Maurice, Ellingham.
This is an exciting opportunity to become the parish priest of a new benefice of three parishes and lead a new Mission and Ministry Leadership Team to promote the growth of the local church in North Northumberland. The parishes of North Sunderland, Beadnell and Ellingham are in the coastal area of Bamburgh and Glendale Deanery, part of which is an Area of Outstanding National Beauty, including the Farne Islands with their association not only with St Cuthbert but also the 19th century maritime heroine Grace Darling.
The new incumbent will be a natural team leader who has the ability to bring together and develop a new team of lay and ordained for mission and ministry across the new benefice. They will flourish by living and being part of these coastal communities and be comfortable leading change. They will be creative in their approach to developing new styles of worship to enable wider groups of people, including the young, to participate in the life of the local church. They will be committed to growing the use of church buildings to serve God’s mission more effectively and wish to develop the welcome of visitors, tourists and pilgrims to the Northumberland coast.
Ellingham Parish has a Church of England (Voluntary Aided) primary school that is at the heart of the local community. It is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted and the new parish priest will be an ex-officio governor.
The Diocesan Seahouses Hostel for children and young people is part of St Paul’s, North Sunderland. The successful candidate would join the board of trustees and support the promotion of the hostel as a key resource for the north east of England and beyond.
This innovative ministry will make a key contribution to realising the potential for mission and ministry in the three parishes and also to the diocesan vision 'growing church bringing hope'. If all this resonates with you then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!
