Beyond Youth is a project in the Church of England Diocese of Newcastle and the parishes of Ashington, Cresswell and Lynemouth, Seaton Hirst, and Woodhorn with Newbiggin. Our role is to support the parish churches of South East Northumberland to develop and grow their work with children and young people.
Beyond Youth staff are managed by the Children and Youth team for the Diocese and work in partnership with the clergy and parochial church councils (PCC) of the above-named parishes.
If your child is considering getting involved with Beyond Youth for the first time, do read our 'Guide for Grown-Ups' to help you know what to expect.

Safeguarding Information
The Diocese of Newcastle is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults and creating protective and supportive environments where all people, and especially those who may be vulnerable, are able to pursue their faith journey in safety.
What do we do?
Staff and volunteers are recruited according to the Church of England’s safer recruitment guidance.
Staff and volunteers receive initial and ongoing safeguarding training relevant to their role.
We risk assess all of our events, considering risks associated with people, venues, equipment, data and activities.
We seek to empower young people to share their concerns and complaints.
We record and respond to complaints and incidents alongside the Parish Safeguarding Officer of the parish where the incident took place and the Diocese of Newcastle’s safeguarding team.
Concerns?
If you have a concern about a Beyond Youth volunteer or staff member’s conduct, you can inform Dave at d.johnson@newcastle.anglican.org
If Dave is the subject of your concern or you feel unable to discuss the concern with him for whatever reason, you can contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team at safeguarding@newcastle.anglican.org.
If you feel unable to discuss your concerns with the above, you can contact the National Church of England Safeguarding Team at www.churchofengland.org/contact-us.
If you have immediate concerns about someone’s safety, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
How can you help?
The more we as a whole community are aware of safeguarding issues, the safer the children and young people in our community will be. The NSPCC website contains plenty of free information to help you and others keep people safe.
If you have any suggestions for how we can make sure Beyond Youth events can be safer, we would love to hear them.
Volunteering Opportunities
Beyond Youth depends on volunteers to host our various activities and events for children and young people.
From Messy Church, to sharing Bible stories through Open the Book collective worship, helping with detached youth work in local parks and beaches or hanging out in schools at lunchtime playing games and offering a listening ear, you can decide what events and activities you’d like to get involved in and how often you can commit.
Adults of all ages are welcome to volunteer, and those aged 16-18 years old can sign up as a junior leader. All volunteers will receive the training they need and also have access to additional training such as food hygiene and first aid.
If you would like to find out more about what volunteering with Beyond Youth looks like, you can read our Volunteer Handbook and fill out an expression of interest form.
