Team Vicar to St. Columba, Wideopen (half-time)

The Bishop of Newcastle wishes to appoint a half-time priest to be Team Vicar to St Columba, Wideopen in the Christ the King Team Benefice.

Wideopen and Seaton Burn are residential areas to the north of Newcastle, with good community facilities and connections south into the city centre as well as into the countryside and coast north of the city. The historic mining communities combined with families moving into new housing developments make it a creative place for ministry and outreach.

St Columba’s church is a relatively new church building created from a clear vision to be a church for the local community growing out from two previous congregations. Whilst the focus of this role is at St Columba’s, Christ the King Team offers a supportive and collaborative partnership with a vision for growing mission and ministry across the communities in which the team’s churches are set.

A new minister is sought who can enable a refreshing of the church’s vision for turning outwards in mission, developing discipleship, particularly amongst children and families, alongside care for St Columba’s community and congregation - someone energised by making the church more visible and illuminating the presence of God’s Kingdom in the wider community
