Introducing our new Continuing Ministerial Formation Officer

First published on: 23rd September 2021

I am the Continuing Ministerial Formation Officer (what a mouthful!) for the diocese - it has already become the CMF Officer!

This is a new appointment and is part of the Mission and Ministry Team. My role is to support clergy and readers, with responsibility for ensuring that there is a rich pattern of further training and ongoing ministerial formation.

Previously Continuing Ministerial Development (CMD) Officer, this newly-expanded post combines responsibility for the ongoing training for all licensed ministers with responsibility for helping to nurture their ongoing formation as disciples of Jesus Christ.

These are rapidly changing times for the Church of England and Newcastle Diocese which require constant adaptation to new challenges and opportunities, whilst remaining faithful to the God who calls and sends.

This role is a key part of supporting clergy and readers as they remain rooted and growing in their faith and vocation but also learn to respond flexibly to a changing context. I’m passionate about the potential of formation and development through saying yes to God. The advert for the post started with ‘The Church is the Body of Christ, the people of God and the dwelling-place of the Holy Spirit. In baptism the whole Church is summoned to witness to God’s love and to work for the coming of his kingdom.’

I am looking forward to joining in where we see God at work across the diocese. I’m a Reader at Gosforth Parish Church of St Nicholas, licensed in 2015, and have worn various hats as part of my ministry since then.

I am the North Shields Chaplain for Lindisfarne College of Theology. For the last few years I have also led the Reader Recruitment and Selection team, working with enquirers and co-ordinating selection panels.

My day-job throughout all of this time was working in Higher Education at Newcastle College and I have a background in life-long learning and adult education.  I’ve spent my first few weeks out and about meeting people - ask your clergy and readers if we've met! If we haven't, we will soon.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about training or other support please get in touch with me at c.pacitti@newcastle.anglican.org.
