Carols and fundraising in the community

Church of the Good Shepherd, Battle Hill, has supported its community in Wallsend this Christmas with carol singing and fundraising.

They sang with other local churches at the Rising Sun Christmas Fair, and also at The Forum in Wallsend, while using collection buckets to raise valuable funds for the Salvation Army's Christmas Appeal.

The same cause benefited from the church's annual toy service, where new toys were donated and blessed in church. Local people were very generous in their donations.

Carol singing continued at Coastway shops, Charlton Court nursing home, Battle Hill Library and also in church. There was also a nativity and carol service.

Church of the Good Shepherd works hard to build relationships and partnerships within the community, which include the Friends of the Rising Sun Country Park. There are regular visits to church by local schools, and vice-versa.

The Revd Julie Mooney added: “These relationships help us to grow church and this year we invited many new families as we hosted the nativity and carol service for Round the Twist private nursery. For the vast majority of adults, this was their first time in our church but many of them are expecting to join us again for more Christmas services. It is wonderful to spread the Good News of Jesus in this way.”
