A former vicar of Berwick had the honour of attending The King's Annual Scottish Garden party this year.
Canon Alan Hughes and his wife Susan were invited to the prestigious event, in July, at the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh.
The garden party was attended by people who have made positive contributions to their communities and the nation.
Over the past three decades, Yorkshireman Alan, and Susan, who hails from Scotland, have worked to encourage co-operation and togetherness on both sides of the Border, with the motto: “We are people of two nations living in harmony along a common border.” They were recognised for this vital contribution.
It came just three months after Alan received Maundy Money from The King at Durham Cathedral for service in diverse disciplines over many years.
