Mystery pre-war Bible - helping police find its rightful owner

First published on: 29th June 2023

Police are trying to reunite a fascinating Bible with its rightful owner.

The blue-covered Bible, titled The New Testament, A New Translation, by James Moffatt, contains illustrations and a handwritten inscription which suggests it was given as a Christmas gift in 1938.

The Bible, which is in good condition and has clearly been well cared for, has come into the possession of Northumbria Police.

Officers are keen to reunite the Bible with its rightful owner. They would like to hear from anyone across the Diocese who may have any information about its history.
